Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers to the questions we hear most often from authors, organizations, and prospective clients.

What kinds of writing does the studio work on?
We work on adult fiction (literary, upmarket, and select commercial categories), memoir, narrative and prescriptive nonfiction, business books, founder and executive content, and educational materials. We do not currently take on children's books, poetry collections, screenplays, or academic dissertations, but we're glad to refer you to specialists when we know of one.
Where are you located, and do you only work with Louisiana clients?
Our studio is in Rayne, Louisiana, but we work with clients in more than forty U.S. states. All editing and consulting work is conducted online or by phone unless an in-person engagement is specifically arranged. Our address is 107 Cezanne Dr, Rayne, LA 70578.
How do I get started?
Start with the contact form or by calling (337) 964-6178. We'll schedule a complimentary 20-minute discovery call to discuss your project, timeline, and goals before any agreement is signed.
How much does an engagement cost?
Every engagement is quoted as a flat fee based on scope. Editorial engagements typically range from $1,200 for a focused manuscript evaluation to $8,500+ for a full book-length developmental edit. Ghostwriting and curriculum projects are quoted individually. You'll receive a written estimate before any work begins.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. Most book-length engagements are structured as a 50% deposit with the balance due at handoff. Larger projects can be split across three or four milestones. Payment plans are available without additional fees.
How long do projects take?
Manuscript evaluations typically take 3–4 weeks. Developmental edits run 8–14 weeks. Ghostwriting projects run 4–9 months depending on book length and interview cadence. Curricula and workshop development typically run 6–10 weeks. Every project includes a written timeline.
Will you sign a non-disclosure agreement?
Yes. We routinely sign mutual NDAs for ghostwriting and confidential editorial engagements, and we treat every project as confidential by default whether or not an NDA is in place.
Do I keep ownership of my work?
Yes, always. Editorial work does not transfer any rights. For ghostwriting, full copyright transfers to you upon final payment. The studio retains no ownership and does not publicly claim authorship of ghostwritten work without your written permission.
Can you guarantee my book will be published or become a bestseller?
No. No reputable editor or consultant can honestly guarantee publication, sales, or bestseller status β€” and anyone who promises those outcomes is not being truthful with you. What we do guarantee is honest, professional work that gives your project its best possible chance.
Do you help with self-publishing or only traditional publishing?
Both. The Publishing Support practice is vendor-neutral. We help you decide between traditional, hybrid, and independent publishing based on your goals β€” and if you choose to publish independently, we can project-manage the production process through trusted third-party vendors.
Do you do copyediting and proofreading?
We focus on developmental and line editing. For final-stage copyediting and proofreading, we coordinate with vetted copyeditors and proofreaders in our trusted network so your manuscript receives the appropriate specialist attention at each stage.
What software and file formats do you work in?
We work primarily in Microsoft Word with Track Changes for editorial projects. Google Docs is available on request. Final manuscript files can be delivered in DOCX, PDF, and (for independently published books) print-ready and ebook-formatted files.
Do you work with first-time authors?
Yes. A significant portion of our work is with first-time authors, and we're glad to walk you through the parts of the publishing process you've never seen before. We don't talk down to new writers and we don't oversell what the studio can do for them.
How can I be sure this isn't a scam or vanity-press operation?
Fair question β€” the publishing world has earned that skepticism. We are a Louisiana-registered LLC, we don't take rights or royalties, we don't recommend a paid publishing platform, and our pricing is flat-fee and disclosed in writing. We're happy to provide client references on request, and our studio address and contact information are listed clearly on every page of this website.
What are your business hours and how quickly do you respond?
Our business hours are Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM CT. We typically respond to inquiries within one business day. For active clients, response time during business hours is usually a few hours.
Do you accept rush projects?
Occasionally, when scope and calendar allow. Rush engagements (less than the standard quoted timeline) carry a flat 20% rush fee, disclosed in the original estimate. We'd rather decline a project than miss a committed deadline.
Do you work with organizations as well as individuals?
Yes. Roughly a third of our work each year is with nonprofits, small businesses, schools, libraries, and faith organizations. We accept purchase orders and standard institutional procurement processes.
